Roma were linked with him a few weeks ago, hopefully not one of those situations where the media confuse Roma’s representatives with ours again.

Definitely seem to be putting out feelers for a range of attacking midfielders/wingers though between this and other recent articles.

But can you not see why we haven't brought one in yet? The approach they're taking is to wait to see if they can get the first or second choice, who are seemingly still available (perhaps Doue or Munoz). If not, they move down the list to one that we could've got ages ago (Johnston, Norton-Cuffey, I imagine).

No-one is happy that we don't have a right back in before the season and they're quite clearly trying to address the issue. But they're looking beyond the first match, hoping that waiting for the first choice will stand us in better stead for the other 37 matches and for seasons to come.

Sure, we may play the market and lose. Even then, I wouldn't necessarily put that down to incompetence or rifts between manager and the recruitment team; it's more just a case of where we are in the pecking order at the moment. But the impatience and lack of understanding is ridiculous.

Another left winger, will be very interesting to see if Ndaiye features at the weekend, as it seems increasingly likely he'll be off.

Is it too unreasonable to ask why the recruitment team could not have got a good right back in at the start of the window?

If you want to buy everything a CEO comes out with, then, yeah, good process.

If you think he’s a bit of a blagger trying to cover his own back, then you’d ask questions.

You can go round and round on this, but can’t really judge strategy until the window is closed. Probably fair to be concerned based on our previous missteps and general track record though.

The really good players (if that’s who we’re competing for) are going to have options as to where they go and right now in the overall football pecking order we have to wait for others to do their business first. They may want European football or whatever as first choice and we can’t offer that currently. This is why for most teams it would be best for the transfer window to close before the start of the season.

If we wait it out and get a better level of player perhaps then you could argue it could be worth it. Obviously though we apparently tried a similar approach last summer and it didn’t work so patience and trust is thin on the ground, and we could again look very stupid for not getting in someone sooner even if maybe they were considered a lower down the list option.

It’s not a great situation clearly, nobody can really argue against that.

On a superficial level, that sounds eminently sensible.

However, a track record of "holding out" for players that are well above our ability to attract and then getting nobody in, as we have left it to late, is the reason we don't like this situation.

Our recruitment team's job isn't to find the best right back in the world. It's to find the best right back that we are able to get at the time we want to get them - they've failed miserably for years at this.

Alan Nixon has reported on his Patreon that Cash is the favoured option of Moyes, and could only cost £20million.

Can’t say I’m surprised.

We can judge because we are over a year into this right back search now. Its probably cost us europe last season. So we are looking at maybe Cafu now or its been a bit of a problem

Emery not at all keen on letting him go and why on earth would he give up Champions League football with Villa for us ?
Only possible reason is if he were given a long term contract, so 5 years for a 29 year old ? Don’t think so !
