Re: Our Captain Seamus Coleman
Are you suggesting that he shouldn’t answer a national call up from his country? That he should put Everton first because we pay his wages?
If I’ve read your comment right I think that’s a really poor shout. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

I absolutely am saying that yes.Toddacelli wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2024 8:55 am Are you suggesting that he shouldn’t answer a national call up from his country? That he should put Everton first because we pay his wages?

He needs to accept where he is in his career. He is breaking down after every few games, and at the moment Everton football club needs him the most.
He should retire from international football and put what's left of his top flight career first, as many other aging pros have done.
Re: Our Captain Seamus Coleman
I can be as bad as anyone for a bit of "home country bias" but you're only saying this because he's Irish. If any other player of his age and injury record was still trying to play international football and breaking down all the time you'd be saying the same, he should retire from international football.Kerryblueboy wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 5:47 pm Don’t know why people are questioning the Ireland thing he is captain of his country and a proud Irish man he owes Everton nothing other players would have left for bigger clubs years ago and he stayed and was a model pro yeah he got his leg broken playing for Ireland but that could happen in any game should keep playing until after this qualification campaign then go on his own terms
Seamus has been great for us but we've been great for him too, if it wasn't for his latest contract with us there's every chance his career would have been over by now and I can't think of too many "bigger clubs" that were queueing up to take him over the years. No one would think any less of him if he retired from Ireland and went out on his own terms.
Re: Our Captain Seamus Coleman
I think this is more the club's fault than Coleman's. Should he sacrifice his international career because the people running this club thought it wise to not invest in an adequate replacement or back up?
Always feels with stuff like this people blame the wrong person.
Sure he could have retired from international football, but it clearly means so much to him to play, and I think we need to think back to being a kid and that dream of playing for our national team... He's achieved that, he's a person who made it and doesn't want to give that up. I think that's perfectly fine, it's understandable.
I don't really care who pays his wages, and I don't think he should be retiring just because no one thought to buy a decent RB over the last half a decade.

Re: Our Captain Seamus Coleman
In hindsight I dont really care about him playing for Ireland, im more annoyed that he still plays for us. He was a great player and now hes not, hes a bit of a liability and its criminal that hes still probably the best we have.
Re: Our Captain Seamus Coleman
I was at the game in Dublin on Saturday and it didn't look good when he went down injured. They even had the stretcher out to take him off at one point, but he managed to hobble off. Now Seamus has been a great servant for both Ireland and Everton, but he's understandably not at the level he used to be at and he cant play as many games, especially with his recent injury record. Something has to give.
Plus on Saturday England were trying to exploit him at every opportunity in the first half by getting the ball to Gordon as much as possible who he was up against.
IMHO Seamus needs to retire from International football if he wants to preserve his Everton career. Ireland should also be looking to the future as well.

Re: Our Captain Seamus Coleman
Hard to say, ankle was bandaged up on the pitch, don’t see that often, papers and OS reporting he’s been sent back to the club for treatment.

Re: Our Captain Seamus Coleman
Doesn’t even have to retire, skipping friendlies and nations league when you’ve already only been back for couple of weeks would be sensible though.

He isn't at the beginning of his career. We pay his wages and we need him to stay fit.
