In terms of pressing, you can see the trio of Douc, McNeil and Harrison especially enjoy it. They are almost hunting down a mistake, praying on tired legs or the slightest error in a slow pass or poor control. That's ultimately what happened against Newcastle with Trippier.

You combine the excellent pressing, a decent counter attacking set up and high quality set pieces, and you have the makings of a very solid team.

The next phase for this side is yet to come, and our open play can hopefully improve over the coming season or two. But for now, I am just enjoying being competitive again and watching us play.

We'd have a decent "goals scored directly from forced turnovers in the attacking third" statistic.

Was nice to see that there were some small spells of brave, controlled, and even a bit risky, possession at times against Newcastle and Chelsea.

Hadn't seen that for a while and being honest it felt quite a bit uncomfortable at times, until it paid off.

Small seeds, softly softly,...

I think it's very important that we've picked up these points lately as we have a small squad and it's likely we're going to start picking up injuries and players form will dip as fatigue kicks in.

We are clearly hyper fit which will help, but the run we've been on is probably not really sustainable.

As form drops or becomes more inconsistent we'll look back on this spell as being crucial to our season, so really the manager and the whole team deserve enormous credit for getting us out of the relegation zone and creating a bit of a buffer.

If we can beat Burnley it'll push us even further away, so I'm hoping we have enough in the tank after a week off, and that the players stepping in for those suspended can raise their game 🤞

The difference from twelve months ago is chalk and cheese. Even when we have lost games early season and were struggling, I could see a plan. I could see what we were trying to do even when beaten.

Twelve months ago, pretty much irrespective of results (which were mainly bad), I couldn't discern anything more than eleven players being sent onto the pitch. I couldn't identify a game plan and so I really thought we would go down without the change being made.

There are more exciting and more expansive managers than Dyche but you could never accuse him of lacking a plan and this run of 3 wins, 6 scored and 0 conceded is as good a week as I can remember in years.
In a world full of adversity, we must still dare to dream.

Yeah for me it was clear we were lacking the quality personnel rather than the coaching or set up being poor at the start of the season.

I think the thing that's impressed me the most though is that Dyche does seem to have more tactical flexibility than I expected, as I feel our play has evolved, and although we are still direct our main plan actually seems to be to win the ball high up and build from there, rather than low block and long ball.

I wouldn't say we play beautiful football, but we use the ball effectively and with some plan which is something that's grown from last season to this.

Yep. Apologies for having any doubts, and surely there's no real sceptics left now?

All the best managers understand that the absolute core ingredients for a good team are all the less fancy, less attractive things like aggression, organisation, motivation, small details etc. Even Pep when he's at his best relies on these ingredients. He would always have his teams working like mad to win the ball back within a few seconds. He played most of last season with 4 CBs. Same with the best Klopp team at Liverpool a few seasons ago. They were known for all the showy stuff, but it was the work ethic and the mad collective pressing that the whole thing relied on.

Managers like Kompany (or Martinez in the past) who style themselves as possession merchants often neglect that the core of their game needs to be based on seriously hard work with and without the ball, and then hopefully you can sprinkle quality on top of that, to make it easier on the eye. If you have shitloads of money you might be able to buy flair players who also work like dogs, and that's the ideal.

So yeah, he's doing a fabulous job. I think he's evolved a bit from the Burnley days, as well. He's changed formation a number of times. He's been able to play low block at times, and other times use a high press. He's also noticeably improved a number of players, something else I hadn't expected. Huge credit to him.

If Godfrey and Keane stroll back in to this side under Benitez/Lampard then we get crushed.

Just nice to have a manager who instills belief but knows also how to tactically adapt for when key players are out.

The entire brick work of our left hand side of the defence gone and the two that come in where probably the best 2 on the pitch.

It's nice to feel in control of games for a change.

Its huge for squad players to come in and heavily contribute to an important away win. The belief it instills cannot be overstated and gets the whole club pulling together even more in one direction.

What Dyche has done in 12 months is quite frankly unbelievable. We couldn't have been in a much worse state when he took over. No identity, poor quality of players, fans protesting against the board, financial issues and struggling in the league.

I just love the way he is so level headed - never gets too excited, up or down.

10 point deduction? No problem, we will just pick up 4 wins in a row.

A real acid test of how far we have come is up in the next 3 games. 3 massive games for the club. Fulham in a QF, Spurs away and City at home.

I all of a sudden love football again.

I really like what he's doing, he's got us fit, working hard, committed and above all we look well coached, disciplined and everyone knows their role and sticks to it. He's just what we need right now, both on the pitch and under the current circumstances off it, he's been around the block, he's media savvy and knows how to get the best out of players.

Encouraging as well is he was talking tonight about adding a bit of style, not that I think we've played that 'ugly' anyway, I'd happily play like this and take 12 points out of every 15.

I said a couple of weeks ago, it's just nice to enjoy games and look forward to the next one. Let's just hope he keeps Ashley Young out of the starting 11 from now on. :)

I hate this media narrative that we have wiped out the 10 points it’s completely deflecting from the unfair nature of the deduction
