Have my reservations as a full back as opposed to his wingback role at Palace but he’ll be fun and we have been deprived of that for so long so I’m in.

Thing is Johnson doesn't hug the touchline, he plays inside and likes to drive at the box. Dibling also wants to cut inside so we absolutely need an attacking RB to accommodate them properly.
The fact he's more of a wingback is a positive rather than a negative, especially as he's apparently pretty solid defensively anyway.

Take it you aren’t a fan?
Too old you think?
Think he’s a good player but yeah it’s a fair chunk on a good prem full back who’s approaching the end of his career.
Considering we seem to be being very conservative with money seems odd that we’re talking about £20m this guy, £25m wan bissaka, £25m Spence….these are OK players at their most expensive…isn’t that what we’ve been saying we shouldn’t do any more?

Think it’s a moot point, no credible evidence that he is even under consideration, might as well talk about Jurien Timber or Reece James.

I found it wild that Alan Myers said Doue is one of the 4 targets we’ve been looking at. His club value him at around 40mil - surely if we aren’t willing to splash that type of money you don’t waste any time with those types of targets
It would be nice for majority of our signings to be low fee, young with massive potential but the desperation in that right back position is one where I would take someone ready to immediately come in and play
Ideal scenario would be to sell Patto and sign 2 right backs , one for the immediate and one for the future, though I’ve no idea if we are considering that as a plan

Re Doue, I suppose it depends on how the deal is structured, would they be willing to loan with an obligation to buy, or alternative structures that make it affordable or could work within our financial constraints? I suspect they have a list of options, then it's working out from those which ones work financially

would be great if this were legit - a genuine decent RB

He's a good player in a position of desperate need and the reported fee isn't particularly outrageous. Would improve us instantly and should be serviceable for a good 3 years.
We've got plenty of younger players to develop. Perhaps once they reach their peak, it'd be time to focus on a younger RB. For now, though, it'd just be lovely to see someone familiar - and competent - playing there.

The club should have been prioritising RB as the number one target from the summer 2025 window. It’s not new news that we need one. The budget should have been appropriate to sort out the issue. Whether that is £15m or £40m. Then we should have a list of a number of players who fit the bill and go after them.
In fact, we have known for a few years that this issue was here, ever since Coleman had injury issues and the fact that Patterson hasn’t worked out. But I will give us the benefit of the doubt further back beyond summer 25 because of financial constraints.
I know the market is crazy, but this really shouldn’t be as much of a problem as the club are making it out to be. We have to get it done this summer and we cannot have another season without a solution.

As long as the majority of our budget goes towards younger players these signings are fine.
He’s been the best right back in the league for a while imo, although playing in a system that very much suits him.
He’s too good for us to turn down if we can get a deal done.

I don’t see us buying him without Beto/Tim/Patterson/Alcaraz going out the door.
They’re all down to their last year so that’s the best part of £50m that need shifting or re-signing to avoid losing that value in the squad.

If we'd got £75m for Ndaiye someone like Doue becomes a lot more feasible at that price (and we'd likely negotiate it down a bit).
You need these targets for if you end up cash rich suddenly, especially if they've given at least some positive vibes about joining.
