Re: Scouting/recruitment
Young promising talents only take a step up when they get to play regularly though.
If we're clogging the squad with 30 year olds (Bowen, Toney, Grealish) who Moyes will play first and foremost for the next couple of years, aside from getting no money back for those deals, the kids as we've seen this season will mostly get to enjoy the bench and not develop or leave in search of playing time. If we're not planning a major role and step up in playing time for the likes of Dibling, Tim, Aznou, Rohl next season we should be looking to sell them as it's a waste of time otherwise and they become depreciating assets alongside with the older players. You know there is no way we give Dibling any significant playing time if we have Grealish and Bowen around.
I'd also kinda say it's just a bit boring too. We should be going after a Rayan type rather than a Bowen if we've already very likely got Grealish and experienced players like Ndiaye and KDH to lean on.
Re: Scouting/recruitment
Moyes will always be cautious of playing inexperienced players, so whether we sign experience or inexperience is actually a really pressing issue... Why sign more inexperienced players if the manager will continue to use them sporadically?blueToffee wrote: ↑Fri May 15, 2026 3:19 pm Young promising talents only take a step up when they get to play regularly though.

If you want a manager to go all in on the youth then you also want a new manager.
If Moyes is staying then it's pointless clogging the squad with younger players. Give him some experienced game changers and move the needle significantly.
Imagine a season where instead of McNeil regularly playing we have Bowen there instead. Equally same impact having Toney Vs Beto / Barry.
Whether people agree or not with this transfer policy, if we want to be seriously challenging top 6 with this manager then there's no logic signing foreign 22 year olds and asking him to use them, especially when the bench is stacked with them already.

Here's hoping we don't repeat last year.
Court a fullback:
- get him in the building
- have his club realise they don't want to lose him on a free so offer him a new contract
- get rejected
- have exactly zero contingency plans
- JOB starts as rightback and Kean at centre half due to Branthwaite breaking down in pre-season

If we go out and spend the better part of £75m on two 30+ year old wingers on big wages Ill give up.

Re: Scouting/recruitment
Asked my Sunderland mate about him this morning when I saw that he was linked.
Said he's 'not bad', more of a DM than an RB, and can't get in their team most weeks.
Doesn't sound great tbh, but actually probably still a massive upgrade on O'Brien there.
Re: Scouting/recruitment
Esteve looks decent enough.
Left footed I think so hopefully with the addition of a new RB he can slot straight in with JOB next season.
I just simply can't be seeing any more of Tarks.
