Dom being fit as well, though you can likely credit Dyche for making that happen tbf to him.blueToffee wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 10:21 pm Yeah, I would agree that part of it is we do have a more balanced squad now than we'd previously done in recent years. All the incomings this summer have helped with that, plus having Branthwaite step up too. I don't know how much credit Dyche gets for that vs the DoF though, perhaps a little for both.

Re: Dyche
Yeah would be horrible to play against us knowing we can just keep going and wear you down... Not many teams will be able to match us for shear will power and fitness.
Re: Dyche
I am really loving our pressing game this season. Most times we let the first pass to the defender quite easily but post that we don't give any space for short passes making them go long where we have good headers of the balls in Tark, Branthwaite n even Mykolenko wins it quite often.
I don't remember the last time we were so tactically adept in our defensive gameplay. We might not have the best technical players but they all play their roles really well and it seems like we really have a system.

Re: Dyche
We were even pressing hard in those added 10 mins, chasing everything when 2/3-0 up. He's got us fit enough to do this across 90 mins, which we haven't had for years.wepull wrote: ↑Fri Dec 08, 2023 6:26 am I am really loving our pressing game this season. Re: Dyche
If we'd just appointed him years ago like the wisest amongst us suggested...... we'd probably be champions of Europe now
Re: Dyche
Was thinking earlier how I think most are onboard with him now... Earlier in the season there were complaints about his press conferences, his voice and numerous other things (as is the case with any manager when things aren't going well).
Feels like everything unified now though, players, fans, media all seem to be onboard.
When was the last time that happened? Where everyone seemed to be pulling in the same direction? First 6 games of Ancelotti? Martinez's first season?
I forgot what this harmony felt like, it's bloody marvellous!

Re: Dyche
True, but is it sustainable over a whole season and beyond?
Look at Newcastles injuries, Leeds under Bielsa and Klopps reputation for exhausting players through a militant press.
We've a massively shallow squad compared to others. Were fooked if we lose many more key players.
Its difficult to argue against it as a valid tactic at the momet, especially with a -10 point premium, but potentially at what cost overall?

Re: Dyche
Brilliant isn't it, just makes us so much more enjoyable to watch. Dyche mentioned layering quality over the hard work aspects, in time, but that teamwork and desire is the platform.AjaxAndy wrote: ↑Fri Dec 08, 2023 10:57 pm Was thinking earlier how I think most are onboard with him now... Re: Dyche
I think that is the risk, and that's why he gets so frustrated when we either miss a chance (and something to protect) or lose possession after working hard to win it.MmmBlueBranthwaite wrote: ↑Fri Dec 08, 2023 11:50 pm True, but is it sustainable over a whole season and beyond?

We do go through periods when were are less direct to give the team a breather, but I don't think we ever play possession football in the hope of slowly building towards a goal (the 3rd against newcastle is more of an exception than by design I think), it's more about having a chance to make the other team chase for a bit while we catch our breath.
I'd be willing to bet almost all of our best chances come from winning the ball in the middle or final third.
