Out of curiosity, seeing as the fee with add ONS is getting closer to Kubos release clause.
What would Dibling give us that Kubo wouldn’t? Besides one having played some minutes in the Premier League last season.
I think Kubo let it be known that he would only move to a club in the Champions League

Bloody hell if they can afford to sack off a 40 million offer for a 19 year old, I'd question their need for parachute payments.
That makes me sound like a Tory.. but well, he is a right winger.

Hope we walk away.
My prediction as I mentioned is that this gets done deadline day at a compromise.
But we may have done all our business by then so who knows.

I'm disappointed we've gone that high because I can't see any club spending over £30m on him. Should have bid that and waited for deadline day. They don't have much leverage if he's only got 2 years left on his contract.

Ahh okay I thought that was Fofana, didn’t know Kubo had said similar. Thanks

On to Tom Fellows, then?

Just forget it.
Even if he goes on and starts putting up 15 G+A a season a few years from now he'll barely go for £60m.
I dont see how the risk is worth it. Make him request the move or go on to another target. Come back next summer when he's got a year left on his contract.
Doubt he does more than 10 G+A in the Championship this season.

If Southampton are being stupid on price then you have to leave it and move on quickly. It’s a shame but it feels like we have dithered on targets in this window for too long rather than just accepting reality.

Be disappointed if we end up playing 40m plus add ons for him. Has anyone ever gone for that sort of money without actually producing anything
Call their bluff and walk away. We are at the point where we are paying the full amount for what he may or may not potentially become
30m was more than reasonable. It's not like there's a queue for him and it's not like there's a short term need for someone with 2 goal involvements last season

How have we got ourselves in such a situation for a player who’s done nothing in the game.
He might have big potential and go onto be a very good player but there’s no guarantee.
For the money being quoted you want something to hang your hat on.
Let someone else spend that money on him.

Do we think Doak is completely impossible due to his club?
Fellows certainly feels more doable but both have interesting profiles for us even though they aren’t Dibling-level dribble monsters.
If we don’t sign someone who can play on the right before the PL season begins, it’s going to be ugly. Dewsbury-Hall making his first start wide right because the other options are unplayable ugly.

What’s the latest with this?been in work last I heard was that we were preparing a 40mil bid
This is mad money for him in our position . We need somewhat of a safe bet first team ready for that type of money

We bought Ndiaye for £15m a year ago following a tough season at Marseille. Obviously that was a great deal and he is a few years older, but we're talking £25-30m more than that for this lad on the back of the 1 season he's had in football where he put up Jack Harrison numbers?
He's obviously talented and Southampton were obviously shit but absolutely no guarantee he's going to be an effective footballer in the future and little evidence of it so far to be spending that much money on him.
You look at Palace with Eze, Olise, Wharton, etc... Go for that sort of player before the fee becomes absolutely ridiculous. Tom Fellows or even Omari Hutchinson would be better buys at this point.

We have made many mistakes but I think teams like Chelsea, Man City and a few of the big European clubs have completely fucked the market, hoovering up potential talent for £30-40 million a pop at a ridiculous rate with seemingly no consequences.
How many of the big money teenage transfers have actually ripped it up after their transfer?
We paid £28 million for Moise Kean who up until this last season had done fuck all, so £40 million is ridiculous but also not in the daft world of football.

Yeah, I don’t know about this one.
Feels like we’re treading into Richarlison/Onana territory where we’re paying about what he’ll be worth for his next move except we’re taking on much more risk because Dibling hasn’t shown nearly as much as those two had.
We’re dangerously close to ruining the transfer window again!
