Watching England under Southgate has been so depressingly similar to watching Everton.
Regardless of the quality of opposition we raise or lower our game to meet them and then still look shit whenever we get into the final third. Hoping for moments of magic as we have no discernable patterns of play

Thought Pickford had a really decent tournament, as he always seems to, probably in the top 3 for me, but Mamardashvili was absolutely immense, 30 saves almost double the top contenders.

2) Jordan Pickford
Cemented his ‘Not A Great Goalkeeper, But A Great England Goalkeeper’ legacy. There are many valid reasons why he remains at Everton, but slick his hair back and stick him in England’s goal at a major tournament and something really quite wonderful happens to Pickford. Revels in penalty shoot-outs, makes big boy saves on the regular and there is arguably no player in history who has raised their game in major tournaments for England the way Pickford has so consistently and for so long.
EDIT #2: I realise they gave him England's 2nd best player which is decent praise, but it's so backhanded and absolutely plays to the stereotype we all know to be nonsense.

I think a little too much has been made of Guehi's performances... Thought given the circumstances and his lack of experience at this level he coped well, but he did almost nothing with the ball. It was uber safe (understandably) and we missed Maguire bringing the ball out from the back, something Guehi wasn't capable of doing.
Obviously huge respect for the guy coming in and not looking like a weak point in the defence, but his lack of ability / bravery on the ball, whilst completely understandable was something of a problem.

Here's the Guardian's rating, so there's plenty of positive perspectives -
Jordan Pickford (GK) Another excellent tournament for England’s No 1. Pickford made saves at vital times, particularly in the second half of the final against Spain, and excelled in the penalty shootout victory over Switzerland. He was often forced to kick the ball too long but he was faultless in other departments and is unlikely to be displaced by Aaron Ramsdale or Dean Henderson any time soon. 8

La Marca in Spain had him as best keeper in the competition. And I saw a highlights video with Spanish commentary heaping praise on him. Got shit from England fans for that late kick where we had an attacking throw and the ball ended up with Pickford booting it out. If you watch our goal Pickford starts it off with a quick ball out. So biased the commentary and general feelings towards him from fans. Including some of my friends who support other teams but who I normally agree with. Like has been said fuck ‘em. And for him to keep doing as well despite all the BS is actually remarkable, many others wouldn’t and haven’t coped

I don't think he's started the season well at all, but given his exploits for England in pretty surprised he hasn't even been nominated for Yachine Trophy, but it's probably more of a reflection on where he plays his club football and the lack of European football. It's a shame for him as he was pretty instrumental last year for us and England

I watched the Sven documentary the other day and during the England teams 'golden generation' you had David James in goal.
Pickford is streets ahead of James and I would say he is better than Rob Green, Joe Hart as well.

I thought David James was a proper highlights reel keeper. He could pull off absolutely incredible saves right the way through his career but watching him over full games you saw the weaknesses too often. Always felt he was on the edge of a clanger.

I agree, but id also say he's a fair way behind the likes of Seaman and Martyn
