Moyes (rightly) gets a lot of criticism for his subs but he got it right at the weekend.

Johnson’s running in behind kept them honest and meant that we didn’t end up camped in our half and inevitably conceding.

I also think Alcaraz did well, he presses really well and he won the ball high a few times in the short amount of time he was on the pitch.

I like Dibling but he would have been a big risk off the bench as he seems to play best from the start growing into games. There was a real risk that he was brought on, couldn’t keep up with the pace of the game, lost possession and the crowd gets on his back - undoing the good work done in pre-season to build his confidence.

He’s clearly talented but he’s also clearly pretty mentally fragile and has to be managed appropriately.

With Ndaiye and George the preferred wingers we are already pushing either Dibling or Johnson to third choice RW, and Bringing in Grealish would push George to backup LW, and also take away that pace and directness we need in the team.

The only starting players I'd look to sign right now would be both full back positions, and even then that means Rohl's minutes suddenly drop off, and potentially we replace a pacy direct player with a more solid and less dynamic player like Johnston.

I just think we've got such an exciting crop of 25 and under players that are bringing a new and much needed energy to the team that I don't want anyone brought in who dilutes that.
Yes I agree, but Moyes isn’t the manager to give them all lots of minutes without his hand being forced through injuries and suspensions

He played 5 out of 6 of them against Palace?

I don't see why he wouldn't play one more in that situation, except that our formation wouldn't allow it unless we play Dibling up top.

He also said afterwards he didn’t really want to but injuries meant needs must.

I guarantee when everyone is fit our midfield will be norgaard garner and kdh with ndayie and one of George/rohl/armstrong or Hackney on the other side

But then you insisted that JOB was a certainty for RB at the weekend, and Hackney wouldn't be starting.

So doesn't that give you any pause for thought?

Yeah we all know Moyes prefers prem proven so I see the concern but we also know that Moyes has a habit of finding his best team when circumstances force it upon him, I'd argue that's happened with the introduction of the new guys and now he'll start to trust them more

No I have seen enough of Moyes over the years to know what’s coming he hasn’t or won’t change you think if he had norgaard or garner fully fit at the weekend Armstrong or Hackney would have started no way Rohl did ok at the weekend but isn’t a long term solution

Whatever he decides to do we now have more energy, more options and a lot more talent in the squad.

It's a good problem for him to have and will likely come with additional expectations from the board on what constitutes a successful season now he has more depth in which to play with.

Yes, he did.

But that doesn't disprove the point that he didnt fall over playing 5 of the 6, and actually chose Merlin ahead of Jake, and Harrison instead of Alcaraz.

Wouldn't be suprised if he picks Armstrong ahead some of the others and keeps him around this season, he seems to really rate the 19yo, who happens to be the youngest 1st team player on our books.

I think these pre conceived ideas we have of Moyes are both, often enough wide of the mark, and ignorant of what factors actually make Moyes favourites mostly the better players.

We know little of the tactics, the psychology of the player, the issues and the strengths and synergies that go beyond what we see on the pitch.

As was said, had we gone behind would we have the mentality to get a result. The mental toughness of our squad has been questionable for the last decade. I dare say this is a big reason Tyrique and Harrison get a decent run. In game mentality - not age - is the deciding factor.

Not happening is it T. Dibs.

He doesn't really look like a winger? Number 10 maybe?

Could be tried there if Charlie goes?

Really want him to come good.

Not that fussed if he comes good or not now. Over a year into his career here so it’s time to stand up and be counted.

We have other options and you have to earn your minutes so if others offer more output then that’s fine.

Thought his turn and shot was class.

Lovely little player. Learn the lesson and stick with him.

Yeah he was up and down tonight but there's obvious talent there and I'd like us to give him time, rather than repeating last season's circus of writing him off after each isolated appearance.

I also think this is where a good manager finds a way to utilise his talents, which might mean playing more to his strengths than expecting him to play in a way he's not suited to.
