Re: Alistair Johnston
Given our scouting almost certainly based on his world cup stats which are massively skewed by 1 cricket scoreRaptor wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2026 4:14 pm I mean, he played 5 games for Celtic last season, basically missed the entire season with hamstring injuries. The highest hes standard hes played is in Scotland, nearly 28, has a market value of 8 million euros on transfer market and were rumoured to be after him for nearer 15/20m.
Struggling with the positives on this one

Re: Alistair Johnston
We consistenly waste money on shite and then someone says you wouldn't be happy if we signed Cafu for 50p. If we didnt buy overpriced shite people wouldnt always say its overpriced shite
Re: Alistair Johnston
TBF I've been against most of our right back links, AWB - good defender, shit going forward. Spence - similar, but loads more money, but id take either of these in a heartbeat over this.777Kidnappings wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2026 5:05 pm Given our scouting almost certainly based on his world cup stats which are massively skewed by 1 cricket score
Id be disappointed if this was a freebie, we should've just got Couffal last season if this is the best we can do

Re: Alistair Johnston
If he's not much better than Patto, Moyes needs sacking, because he refuses to play him over a CB and a CM. That's about personality clashes, not what's best for the club

Patto must have had a personality clash with every manager.Paddockoldie wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2026 5:21 pm If he's not much better than Patto, Moyes needs sacking, because he refuses to play him over a CB and a CM. That's about personality clashes, not what's best for the club
I agree though, Moyes should be sacked if he signs someone anywhere near Patterson's level, as that level was absolutely shite.
Re: Alistair Johnston
Had a little snoop around the Celtic forum... They rate him highly, think he's worth £25m, and one said he'd be top 5 right backs in the Premier League.
Now either he's absolutely class, or they're very deluded

Re: Alistair Johnston
Is it that positive?
Our search for a right back looks like it’s concluded with a 27 year old playing in Scotland with a questionable injury record.
Every chance we’re back searching for another one in two years with this signing.
Re: Alistair Johnston
I like the idea that the Friedkin's have put in place a new footballing scouting and recruitment team, and we're still going off recommendations from Davey's dad.
Re: Alistair Johnston
I’ll have to see the fee before I form an opinion.
I hate business like this unless you’re paying under £10m and it doesn’t sound like that’s where it’s going to settle.
Bit underwhelming. Don’t think he’s that good of a player today, don’t think he’s going to get better. Can’t be bothered paying real money for what sounds like a run of the mill 6.5/10 right back.

Re: Alistair Johnston
Lad at work is a massive Celtic fan, to give you an idea, his middle name is Larsson and his brother's name is Lennon, I kid you not.
He's not too bothered, says he's got three years left on his deal so if he does go he'll go for a decent fee but he's not breaking his heart if he leaves.
Just feels like a bit of a boring, uninspiring option and with the current fettle of the fanbase he's probably one bad pass on his debut from the knives coming out.

Re: Alistair Johnston
Guess if we’ve only assigned like 10mil to the right back signing we’re not gonna get someone amazing . Just got to look at the positive that it might mean Jake O’Brien can play centre back regularly and we can see less of Keane

The last AJ we signed turned out well didn’t he. On that basis I’m in.
