The lesson with kean is when you find a sucker you sell and the lesson with lookman is if you buy good potential cheap its not much of a risk. The problem with dibling is he wasn't cheap. The lesson is you dont invest big money in a player you dont need
Kean has 27 in 58 for Fiorentina and 13 in 26 for Italy so he's turned in to a pretty handy player.

Thing is you just constantly harp on about what Dibling cost, but it doesn't change anything... He's here and so the options are:

a) continually write him off and bang on about what he cost all the time.

b) find the right development path so he can achieve what he was touted to be capable of potentially achieving.

The former holds zero interest for me, he's here and we paid what we paid for a youngster with an apparent high ceiling. My only interest lies in him achieving that, and I'm more than happy to give him the time to do so.

I want him of course, but I agree that 45 million plus a 25% sell on fee is daft, it just is. He might produce the goods and turn a profit, but you might as well stick it on the favourite for the 3:40 at Cheltenham. You only.gamble what you can afford and this is welll out of our league at this time.
I stand by my original opinion. ^^

I mean just gut feeling, watching him.... its all off, he's not making it here. He strolls around the pitch, doesnt look up for whats around him. I dont want to shit on tbe lad, he's the same age as my middle one but...i"ve been patient but watching him do exactly the same for England U21 within his own peer group, he just seems to wander about, there is no desire to prove himself.

I agree with Andy, in that it is what it is and there is no going back now, so whats the best way forward... Personally its about exit strategy for me and if someone offered us 20 million I'd take the hit. I felt it was a daft gamble at the time and if hiding him at a championship club until he is in year 3 of a 4 year contract, is best for him and us then just bite the bullet and see if someone wants him in the summer. Its rare I write a player off, but... yeah. Quote this at me when he is smashing it and I will hold my hands up.

The odds of making it to the Premier League as a player is 0.012%, this notion that he half arses it just isn't reality imo. Yes, his style is relaxed, but that's all it is. He's an extremely talented young player that's devoid of confidence.
There have been significant teams interested in taking him, with big bids made for him, and I'm confident given the time he will be a massive asset.
That said, there have been much better players that have failed moving to clubs due to a variety of reasons, but if he does fail with us, I think it'll be more about opportunities and exposure, rather than ability or desire.

Who were the significant teams interested? I can only recall us.
I’m not knocking the lad, I want him to succeed here, but I don’t recall us fighting off any other teams for his signature.

Hope so, hope I am wrong, still. You can also hit a ceiling though, where you coast through the age groups and then eventually get found out. Maybe he'll show something in the run in.

Lots of reports that Spurs were in discussions but couldn't agree a deal before we came in, but United and the Shite were also sniffing around

We could do that with any player. Just pretend its gonna be okay because we've already bought him. The answer for me is cut our losses and move him on.

Can't keep going as it is, he's getting next to zero time on the pitch. Need to loan him out or sell on.

I just think that's insane tbh, imagine completing writing a young player off after one year. It's almost like players take time to settle and mature, but nope... Let's just get rid because he'll never make it here.

Patience may well be a rare thing in footy these days but instead of cutting our loses and selling for about £20m we could do this radical thing or giving him time and helping him develop in to maybe, possibly a player worth a lot more than that.

To be honest ive got so many issues with this signing. Its not even that im writing him off. He plays in the position we are strongest in. We desperately needed pace and hes not remotely quick. He was way too expensive.

Even beyond all that you think well let's see him for a year in Holland or Germany but hes bloody homesick too.

There should have been numerous reasons we didnt make this signing. We ignored them all.

Im not saying hes shite and will never amount to anything. I just dont really think we have matches where hes what we need to change them, hes probably not going to want to go abroad on loan.

Maybe things change if we get some fullbacks in because he is a bit grealish but even then hes still going to struggle for opportunities because of whos infront of him

My endless complaints arent really about him. Its about all the people who ignored the red flags to sign him

Beyond anything else 40m for someone who went from Southampton to cheslea and had to leave cos he was homesick. The risks were just too numerous

He will get more chances because we've little option but with hindsight I assume we all agree hed have been a pass at 40m

I think with hindsight the vast majority of the last 2 windows signings would have been passed on

Sometimes it’s better to save words, bro.

The first 8 would’ve sufficed.
