Next Everton Manager
Re: Next Everton Manager
I think Potter can be a little bit style over substance but when you look at what he did at Brighton then isn't that what we need from the next manager?
Chris Hughton did well to keep them in the league but they were only ever going to battle at the bottom under him and would probably eventually go down. Potter oversaw the culture change at the club from being a side that were resolute and trying to dig out enough points to stay in the league to a team that played on the front foot and wanted to became a factor in the league. You can talk about De Zerbi/Hurzeler but realistically would they have done that well without Potter's work at the transition stage?
Is Potter the man that is going to have us fighting for European places? Maybe not, but he's showed that he can lay down the groundwork for that.

Because the job he did at Brighton is exactly what we need here.Raptor wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 4:53 pm I'd flip that on its head, why are others so confident he'd do well?
Personally, I think it's largely nothing football, he had relative success in a really well run club, but you could also argue his subsequent successors have done better? Towards the end of his stint the Brighton fans had enough and he was pretty woeful at Chelsea as he's so rigid in his philosophy. I think he'd emulate Lampard, albeit he's probably a bit more tactical aware, but he'd stick to his guns irrespective and we'd plummet.
Took an old, tired squad near the bottom of the league, implemented a good sustainable way of playing and left them in the top half fighting for Europe.
People will say he doesn’t have the squad here, but look at what he did with defenders like Lewis Dunk and Dan Burn.
Look at how we developed players like caicedo, Mcallister, trossard, bissouma.
He fits like a glove. Every manager we go for will have their negative points, but potter is the ideal fit for us imo.
I don’t see him as a risk at all. I think he’s a very safe pair of hands with a high ceiling if we can create the right environment for him.
Re: Next Everton Manager
If not potter then Carsley for me.
That’s a massive risk, but one I think could be worth taking.

Re: Next Everton Manager
Potter also inherited a few players who’ve gone on to better things and had an excellent director of football to work under during his time. You could argue he developed the players but given the fees a lot of them have gone for then I doubt it’s all him. I don’t think he’s be a bad choice but definitely not mid season and definitely not without major investment and we’re in a bad position with the squad and finances.
Lots of fans are getting carried away with the new owners and stadium imo. There’s every chance we sell Jarrad in the summer and only have that money plus a little bit extra to buy about 8 players. Dyche might still be the man to jam all these new players of varying talent into a functional team that can stay in the league. We could easily see some of the players we want to see the back of given new contracts.
I just hope the new owners know what they’re doing and it’s not just another merry go round.

Re: Next Everton Manager
He had Dan Burn playing wing back *well*. Potter can absolutely get limited players playing football to some type of level.
I think he needs a bunch of players who are teachable or willing to do a job for the team. We have plenty of those. No, I don’t expect we can become a great possession team overnight but these players definitely have the potential to use the ball better.
Dyche doesn’t look like he’s going to kick on like Moyes and get the team doing anything with the ball in matches they’re expected to dominate. We can see this thing out as long as we need to, the points will come, but Potter’s the precise type of person we need when he goes.

Re: Next Everton Manager
Could see Patterson becoming a useful player under Potter. Bit like Lamptey under him at Brighton. If he can make Dan Burn a LB then I'm sure he could teach Mykolenko how to be a full back in the 2020s.
Get something out of those two positions and the team would already look much better.

Re: Next Everton Manager
Fair enough, but you could say this about a lot of managers, Moyes did it at Everton and West Ham, so has lots more experience to reference, but I'm fucked if id want him back. I wouldn't want Carsley either.TheRam wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 11:01 pm Because the job he did at Brighton is exactly what we need here.

I'm not really sure who I would want, and I think that's partly down to the fact I have little to no confidence in our strategy or approach, so think most are destined to fail, and I don't think that'll change much under TFG. Until we get the right people in we will continue to be in this state of flux, and I think we need to review Thelwell and the structure he has in place as that's more important than the managerial appointment imo

Re: Next Everton Manager
Just looked into that rumour a bit more.
Allegri and Paolo Sousa are considered to be the frontrunners. Also Potter is mentioned as an option.
Re: the Lampard rumour, it states ''Lampard is another option for the Roma job, and according to Gazzetta, the former midfielder has been suggested to the Friedkins by people close to Everton''
Re: Next Everton Manager
Correct me if I'm wrong but Potter played a 3-4-2-1 system? Just so happens to be one of my favourite FM formations so that's another tick for me.
-------------------------Pickford
------------Keane----Tarks----Branthwaite
Patterson ------Gana-----Mangala----------McNeil
-----------------Lindstrom------------Ndaiye
----------------------------DCL
Probably the only question marks there are Keane in the back 3 and McNeil as LWB, but I think the latter has shown he can do that role adequately.
I think that works and we have a few bodies that can slot in to rotate and cover if key players are out and the system still works.
I'm not completely sold on Potter mid season as I worry if he can implement his style quickly, but if the next 5 games go poorly for Dyche I do think there's enough in this squad for Potter to work with.

Re: Next Everton Manager
I would be happy with that, ecstatic with Potter in for Dyche. Only change I would have is Myko left centre back and Branthwaite right.
Re: Next Everton Manager
Surely JOB can get a game if we have 3 ATB.
Jarrad right JOB left?
Not sure I even want McNeil LWB. Can't have the lost physically demanding position in the game taken up by one of the least impressive athletes I've ever watched.

Re: Next Everton Manager
Before we get rid of Dyche, the club needs to have a complete reset and proper review of how we would like to move forward. Otherwise, nothing will change.
A lot of the players we have now will not be suitable to play a completely different style of football. Some of them will be suitable, but how many of them will want to stay beyond this season? There are also some older players that will move on.
There is a lot to think about and agree on, and none of that will be done before the Friedkins are through the door. So unless Dyche goes through a horrendous run, I don’t see anything being done until the end of the season.
