Awful news.

A real shame as he’s played well this season and created a nice partnership with Gueye.

Sadly does explain being linked to that 2 mil 28 year old Brazilian DM.

Thought it might be serious when he went down and didn't cover his face, sounds weird I know, but he looked straight over to the bench with a shocked look on him.

Really good player, gutted.

Terrible news, he’s a player I would like us to buy. Does that mean we can’t end his loan and get a new one?

Yeah gutted for him there and for us.

Was starting to build a nice but of momentum wasn't he.

Gonna be hard to replace.

Garner the obvious choice to come back in but he's not the same type of player.

Looks maybe like that Barbosa if the links are true.

Would be very concerned about his quality if Casemiro is seen as an improvement on him

We've got through multiple partners for Gueye over the years and couldn't find a fit , but we looked to have sorted it out with Mangala , such a shame for him and us.

If you watch any NFL, you know that's maybe the most common sign of "blown ACL." A receiver or running back plants his leg a little awkwardly, often walks off the pitch on his own power. Your first instinct is "it can't be that bad, then" - but 8 times out of 10, those non-contact injuries are the worst. A bone bruise, on the other hand, is often much more painful/incapacitating in the immediate term.

For me, there isn’t a worse feeling in a joint than instability, which is what the ACL causes. The feeling that it could all breakdown at any second, and the weakness without seemingly much injury. That ability to get up and play on, but then the reality sets in on the pitch a few minutes later that it’s something feels really strange and wrong.

I have had a couple of quite bad injuries in my time - a terrible ankle injury a few years ago, doing pretty much all the ligaments, and this Xmas, badly breaking my elbow requiring an operation. At least with the elbow, I know that with a metal plate and my bones - it should heal up as solid as it was. With my ankle, I was lucky that it healed up well and haven’t had issues, but with soft tissue/ligaments etc, there is an element of luck in terms of how your body deals with it. There’s also the osteoarthritis issue as we all age, but I won’t think about that too much for now!

With Mangala, I just hope that he comes back the same player and doesn’t have those niggling injuries that others seem to get. Footballers are such high tuned machines that you do fear for anyone with a significant injury. It would be such a waste for a talented individual and one that was seemingly on the up.

Some reports in France saying he wont be going back for treatment. Reckon we have already bought this lad you know.
