It’s a shame that he’s not properly rated by non-Evertonians.

Should be mentioned in the same breath as Cole and Evra. He was definitely the best attacking player of the three and I have no idea how to compare them defensively.

When I think of it like that I always imagine the majority of fans not having him on their radar and then they see him play against them and they’d say stuff like “ey that Baines was bloody good wasn’t he” and tell their mates “the Everton left back” was the best player on the pitch.
