Personally, I think it's largely nothing football, he had relative success in a really well run club, but you could also argue his subsequent successors have done better? Towards the end of his stint the Brighton fans had enough and he was pretty woeful at Chelsea as he's so rigid in his philosophy. I think he'd emulate Lampard, albeit he's probably a bit more tactical aware, but he'd stick to his guns irrespective and we'd plummet.

For me he's a very intelligent coach who's worked his way up in obscure leagues with a great philosophy of how modern football should be played.

He had Brighton playing really good possession based football and if they'd had any half decent strikers they'd have been higher up the league without a doubt.

He's also shown he can build a team in his vision, which we desperately need with so many players out of contract in the summer. Obviously some of that was the excellent recruitment at Brighton but he still was able to gel the older senior heads with exciting talent in a really good way.

Chelsea was a bit of a poisoned chalice and so it's hard to judge him on that, but I think whatever the reasons it didn't work out there he's more than capable of doing better here.

Nothing's a given but Potter doesn't seem to be one of these charlatan managers who's all style over substance. He has his teams playing good football but not at the cost of results... Long term I think that could be very fruitful for us in the position we're in moving forward from the summer.

They’d never have employed him. Neither would we if we’d been remotely competent instead of picking Allardyce, Benitez or Lampard and ending up in the mess we were in.

That's the thing though. Dyche and his ilk will never be given a chance at Chelsea or clubs like that.

And they will have chips on their shoulder about it, but then they'll never be willing to learn and change the way they play to even be considered by a Chelsea.

It's kinda equivalent to incels who hate women because they won't have sex with them, and yet they do nothing to make themselves remotely desirable or even approachable.

Potter had a 37% win rate at Chelsea. The worst of any permanent manager since 1993. He also only had one top half finish with Brighton. I don't think that should exclude him but I wouldn't be too bothered if we didn't consider him.

Everyone went mental for De Zerbi coming in and showing how much better he was than Potter... Ended the season in the bottom half tied on points with Dyche. I think Potter did just fine and deserves a lot of credit for his time at Brighton.

He struggled at Chelsea largely because it was a basket case club and it was never the environment to succeed. I also would question if he has the gravitas to inspire primadonna stars especially when there's so many of them not playing. Obviously he won't have that problem here at all.

He does get a lot of credit for his time at Brighton, doesn't he. Maybe more than his record warrents.

He did play Sterling at wingback though.

Think the hype around De Zebri was probably warranted after he came in for Potter after 6 games and guided them to a 6th place finish in his first season, or are we conveniently omitting this? And even though they did finish 11th in his second season, this was only 3 points less than anything Potter achieved

Yeah I understand he did well that first season, but had Martinez vibes second where he'd built on the excellent platform Potter had created but then couldn't sustain it as he tried to move more towards his own ethos fully.

It's that excellent platform that we desperately need.

I know he may be a "flash in the pan" but I'd be all in for Iraola.
Definitely want a manager who is not scared of the opposition.

Iraola, I just don't know. I like the idea but they were easily the worst team to come to Goodison last season and they were equally as awful for 87 minutes this season.

They've also been absolutely slapped by Liverpool in every match under him which may be factoring into the way I feel about him.
