I remember this well as I was in Portugal in the Algarve on holiday on deadline day in 2012. Then while we were walking around
Albufeira, I saw the Porto team bus and have guess who got off it? Joao Moutinho, along with the rest of squad for a game against Olhanense, not looking like a man who was about to transfer to England. This was 2012 though when it was Spurs and us to a lesser extent that he was linked with, I think 2008 was the one where we all thought he was signing.

AndSeel wrote: Mon Feb 03, 2025 11:33 am I dont really want us to be signing a striker in January, just feel the value is never there and in 18 months we need a new one.

An attacking player i think is a must, but i think we will be wasting money buying a forward.
It'll just be a loan from a foreign club. We're Beto getting injured away from no striker for 8-12 weeks so it makes sense to get someone in even if it's just backup to Beto.

Just read on the BBC website that we (and West Ham) had reportedly been interested in Awoniyi from Forest, but they're not looking to sell.

Don't know if they'd be up for a loan, perhaps. Ex-RS, though, apparently.

I’ve seen Tommy Watson, young Sunderland striker, has turned us down for Brighton, which paves the way for us and Ferguson. Only from those very botty Goodison News type blogs, which I hate, but maybe they picked it up from somewhere else?

Yeah was 2008 I think when he was at Sporting. Don't think I've ever been as excited for a player to come in. I was gutted. He'd have been amazing in that 2008 team playing through balls to Yak.

Think we've put ourselves in a position where we only do a deal where there is either long term benefit or low cost with immediate impact (ie loan).

I agree we are a Beto injury away from no striker but think between Ndiaye and Alcaraz coming in we'd find a way to adapt temporarily and we can get some shit results and still be safe.

I assume Chermiti is back in training within the next few weeks although we haven't heard any timelines.

Moyes said about 4 weeks for Chermiti

Who would be the most fun, playing for us as a False Nine?
