Delap flavour of the month?
He just isn’t though is he?
Yer man at Luton last year who everyone got obsessed with is flavour of the month. Not a player like Delap.

Got to say I think delap would be a huge risk. He apparently wants crazy money. Think his hype far outstrips anything hes actually done

He’s the safest bet out of anyone else we could get in that position.

At 150k a week?

For a player who’s only 22 who you hope can be your main man upfront for years to come that’s fine.

He's a yard dog imo. Most fouls committed in the PL this season.

Only really watched him closely when they've played us but he's shit when it comes to a physical battle, not in terms of his physicality but his mentality. Got completely bullied by Tarks in the first game and couldn't handle a bit of a pushing with O' Brien and could have been sent off a minute after because he lost his head in the second. Was totally anonymous after that and subbed off later on.
For the price and the wages I just don't think he's good enough, maybe he will be in the long term, but I'd much rather we spent that money elsewhere. One good scoring season but with some fairly big red flags doesn't mean sensible business to me.

Delap will go somewhere better than here unfortunately.
And flop

That's how I see it. He'll sit on Chelseas bench for a year. Hes a risk free buy for them because teams like us and West ham won't be put off by that and still give them their money back
Flop here or West ham and there's no one rich enough below us to take over them wages plus noones assuming we were just too good for him to get a chance

150k a week really isn’t that much in todays games.
We’ll have to start paying those wages if we want a good squad.

No problem with paying the wages but maybe not for someone who's not done great anywhere apart from half a really good season at ipswich

Sometimes you have to take "risks".
Not with every signing of course but if it comes off it's worth it both ways.
£30M isn't much in the grand scheme of things these days for a striker, specifically English, with bags of potential.
Even if he didn't exactly kick on you'd imagine providing he plays the bulk of the season that 12-15 goals is still achievable and a fair return.
We will be signing players around him too. I get that he probably wants silly wages which is why I ultimately think we won't land him but Delap is deffo a player worth pushing the boat out for in my opinion.
We may have to pay him more than what you or I think he's worth but this could be offset by current players leaving who are on obscene wages (Doucourè £120K) and making sure others that come in aren't on silly money so that it's sustainable then Delap is worth the risk.
Strikers generally get paid the most anyway. There is also a big possibility we sell Branthwaite in the near future for Mega bucks so £30M in a few years looking back won't look like much.

I'm certainly no expert on potential. When I've seen him though he's not been particularly good and assuming 1 season at 12 goals means he can consistently do it is a big assumption too
