Think he was really good against Palace tbh. Probably helped by not playing alongside Gana.

Neither Garner nor Tim really give us a huge amount on the ball, but their partnership seems much more effective than Garner / Gana.

Manchester City’s Phil Foden has been left out of England’s World Cup squad.

Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo, Newcastle United defender Tino Livramento and Arsenal winger Noni Madueke are among the players to have been selected for this summer’s tournament by head coach Thomas Tuchel, who will name his final 26-man squad on Friday.

Mainoo’s teammate Luke Shaw has also missed out, along with Everton midfielder James Garner.

Tuchel has is favourites, not here to make friends I've heard bandied about but loads haven't played for weeks and or totally out of form ... MGW a prime example

Thought he’d make it but maybe it was just too late. These last few games haven’t helped sell his last minute inclusion though I guess.

Taking Mainoo though feels an odd one, perhaps his form flew under my radar but it didn’t seem like he’s done that much this season? I’d argue Garner did more to earn the call over the last year or so.

Mainoo has been good since Carrick took over and put him back in the side, he’s also much more of a forward looking player so I don’t see him as direct competition for Garner tbh.

Henderson is the one that was competing with Garner IMO and given that neither will likely get minutes he’s taken Henderson for his “leadership”

Agree with this, looks like Tuchel wants more rounded players in that position. Everyone he's taking offers more going forward than Garner, especially as others would like be taking set pieces over him so he wouldn't contribute on that front.

Poor game today. No influence. Even at right back, chasing a goal, he passes it and stands still... where's the overlap?

Bland. In his defence its hard to tell what's what with there being little balance to the team.

Armstrong cameo was far more effective. Had a good season but still say he’s a better rb than cm

He's not good enough (yet?) that somebody will come in and pay big money for him but he's definitely one of our bigger assets at the club, strong age with good premier league performance and English to boot. For me we have to be trying to get the best out of what he can do rather than expecting him to do something that he can't do.

Put him at the base of a midfield three with players who can pass or dribble either side of him and put the forward onus on those players not Garner.

Right now thats probably two of Iroegbunam/KDH/Rohl/Armstrong but ideally we'd add a creative passer this summer

I honestly believe Armstrong to be that player. As much as I love Gana, I’d be happy to see a Garner KDH Armstrong midfield. Pair that with Ndaiye, Grealish (10) Dibbling (hopefully ready to kick on) and a new starting striker and attacking fullbacks and we’ll look a totally different animal. I think even Beto would flourish with that set up.

Of course we'd flourish if we had three in midfield, two wingers, a 10 and a striker as we'd be playing 12 men!

Oh yeah 🤭
We could sacrifice the keeper.
