Re: Jarrad Branthwaite
He is the main reason we are so much better this year.
He is a f ing monster CB who has absolutely everything. The fact that we signed him for another 5 years is the best piece of business we have done for a long time.
He will be here for a while yet I hope. We only have to look at Villas trajectory in a short space of time to know what’s possible. The sky is the limit, especially when you have players like Jarrad in your team.

Re: Jarrad Branthwaite
He is the real deal I think.
Could probably level up on the ball, but I don't see why he wouldn't be capable of it.
If we sell him or if we keep him, what a fantastic bit of business.

Re: Jarrad Branthwaite
Amazing that we've plucked both Stones and this lad from the lower leagues. Stones the best English CB in his age group and Branthwaite looks to be the same.
Think we've got him for another season. Onana the one who will go this summer.
Branthwaite keeps this up he's defo going for £75m though. Fofana went to Chelsea for that and Branthwaite looks every bit as good or better than him.

Re: Jarrad Branthwaite
Martinez and Gvardiol. Both are solid internationals, but we all know Branthwaite, if he continues as he's been going, could very soon walk into the England team and do well, having captained the kids at Goodison the other week. I'd argue he's already at their level in the league at least, and beyond players like Guehi and Colwill.AjaxAndy wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 5:17 pm Exactly, Branthwaite has played something like 14 games and has zero international experience and hardly any European.
Martinez signed for Man U for approx £50m.
Declan Rice was £115m.
Gvardiol was £90m.
I think somewhere in-between Martinez and Gvardiol would be about right... Can't see him being worth only £15m less than Rice whose got a wealth of experience across premier league, international and europen footy.
Back to Martinez and Gvardiol, those two were signed from Ajax and Leipzig. Suitors would be buying Jarrad from an established PL club, and paying the premium as a player from within the most expensive league, with the inherent 'cost to replace' high for any PL selling club.
If Declan had been playing in Holland or even Germany he wouldn't have gone close to £115m, (maybe 80 tops) signing within the league from a geographical if not competitive rival is the premium.
Our concerns are that we're desperate for cash, or he asks to leave, but even then Dyche has made it clear who stays and goes, provided the accountants agree, and he held out for 25m+ for Keane and 30m for Wood whilst at Burnley. And Jarrad's only recently signed a new contract.
No other reason for us not to keep him from 19 months and sell for £120m if we absolutely must, rather than make a quick sale now and be back to square one. Regardless of the cash it's players like him that will actually keep us in the league and at a decent level over the next few seasons. He's the quality and potential we've offloaded too easily (but necessarily) in recent fire sales, and found ourselves well short of the quality we need to compete.
We must get full value for our sales, when we get a win like Jarrad from purchasing and developing smart, we need to make it count on the balance sheet. There are still clubs like Man Utd, City and Chelsea that splash the cash due to their strong revenue streams and City aside, arguably poor recruitment. The buyers are there. Let's buffer our relatively small revenue streams only when we have to, and not by selling top quality assets below premium, especially those that increase our revenue by what they do with us through league position, club strength and image. Who knows, our recent league survival and resurgence on the pitch may even be making other investors (assuming 777 falls flat) consider picking us as their shiny new toy.
Doesn't need to be said, but we need to be looking for the next Jarrad now, if not 2 years ago.
Re: Jarrad Branthwaite
Yeah fully agree premier league premium makes him more expensive than if buying from abroad, but given Rice is the same and went for £115m with a wealth of experience I still don't see Branthwaite as a £100m player.Cods wrote: ↑Mon Dec 11, 2023 3:23 am Martinez and Gvardiol. To put it in context £100m would make him the joint third highest British transfer fee ever (tied with Grielish).
However I'm also working on the assumption we sell this summer as I think he'll be hotter property than Onana... Keep him for longer and I think his price would rise appropriately.

Re: Jarrad Branthwaite
Branthwaite should be challenging for a spot for England for Euro 2024. It's unlikely Southgate will pick him because he doesn't usually pull any surprises in squad/team selection, but expect to see Jarrad in after Euro 2024.
He could improve on stepping out with the ball from the back and just overall comfort when in possession, however that is not to say he already a huge improvement on Keane.
In terms of his defensive game, it is just a case of keep going as you are to build that experience. His composure, decision making, technical and physical attributes are very good indeed and that can only improve.
He won't be sold this summer and you wouldn't get £100m for him now. I would suggest Summer 2025 would be optimal in terms of his development, value (will still have 3 years left on his contract) and timing.

Re: Jarrad Branthwaite
I wonder what clauses are in his contract, that’s what I worry about, he could easily have said I’ll sign new contract but if X club offers £X I can go.
