Still a top player even at 35. Get a player who can do the stuff on the ball next to him and that's a lovely little midfield 2.

Can't be paired with Doucoure, it sort of worked against Ipswich because they're shit, but it didn't work at all yesterday. Gana played well, looked to progress the ball forward, but needs someone next to him who can sit and pass.

Really want to see him and Mangala together next game.

Am not sure what to make of Mangala yet,
he has ability, I can't remember who this was against but he seemed to me to be shitting out of challenges and not getting close enough in the press and was easily bypassed by the opposition
I will caviat That with who ever he was partnered with was wasn't setting the world on fire either

Hopefully it was just an off day and he can get stuck in properly as I think he has the toolset to run the show in midfield

I thought he was decent on Saturday, he can wriggle out of tight situations with the ball and looks forward all the time

He was probably our best player last weekend

Our best player of the season by a distance.

Best cm we’ve had in the premier league.

One of the best but I think there's others ahead of him, Arteta certainly who I know played out wide for a while but eventually moved central.

Barry also ahead for me even if he wasn't here as long.

Actually writing this is amazes me how few truly good midfielders we've had, similar to strikers. Plenty of decent players but not many who really stand out as being great.

What’s mental is just how anonymous he was in that God awful Villa team. Some great scouting… shame that was about it during that time.

He put up numbers only just below Kante that season and Villa fans were happy we'd paid £11m because they didn't rate him. Crazy!

It was a Steve Walsh pick as well.

Instead of making him DOF and then firing him, in hindsight we should have just changed his role to head scout instead. He could spot a player.

Think it was a £7m relegation release fee. Unbelievable.

I reckon he was dominated by Koeman, the big twat (Koeman, not Walsh)

That was by far my favourite Villa team of all time.
