The close control and ability to dig out passes and get off shots in extremely tight windows is near Grealish level.

Once the tactical understanding and application catch up, he’s going to be a monster.

Likes a shot more than Jack so big goalscoring potential, whether as a number 10 or winger.

Looks to me like he’s gone back into his shell now that it’s for real but there were still a few moments he backed himself. It could be that he just needs more encouragement or even a goal infront of the fans to unlock his confidence but I’m not opposed to a loan. Definite no to selling at this point.

He works space for himself very well, tight spaces - and that turn and shot in a blink of an eye vs Preston most can't replicate.

Play him AM, involves him in the game more, and see him thrive. He's not a wide player that you can play at the same time as Grealish.

He'll be like Barry, who is near unrecognisable from 12 months ago. It might just take a bit longer but it will click.

His balance though - unreal. You know that Michael Jackson video where he leans over really far one way - this lad can do it for real and send a player for a hot dog while he’s doing it. I thought he did alright the other night, every player loses the ball or gives it away, it just seems anytime he does it's the only thing people focus on rather than some of the decent stuff he does. He's got tons of ability and was unlucky not to score a great goal but it's still his general demeanor that's the problem, there was one point early in the game where he lost the ball and just casually trotted back, in fairness he did manage to eventually win it back but there was no urgency from him whatsoever.

He needs games to develop, unfortunately I think Moyes has already made his mind up because he doesn't appear to work hard off the ball so it's going to be hard for him to get a game but I think he should have played the full 90 on Wednesday.

Injuries might force Moyes hand hopefully gets a run at 10 at some stage

I get your point, but if he's not working as hard as everyone else on the pitch, what effect does that have on the other players if he's allowed to stay on?
There's no divine right to stay on for your own development, just because of the transfer fee.

Plenty of players have had talent (Jadon Sancho is a recent example) but if they're not willing or able to work hard, the top leagues are an unforgiving place.

I’d agree. Thought he was…ok. Some positives, some negatives.

However, yes the perception that he’s a bit lackadaisical doesn’t help him. It seems on paper the easiest thing to fix too though. Maybe it just needs to click for him, but yeah like lose the ball and there is danger down that wing he should be sprinting back. Same going forwards at times too on the break, as there was one time that stood out when we were breaking down the left and there was space on the right and he was following them up but then you see Rohl sprinting past him to get into the box.

When you see the effort another skillful player like Ndiaye makes tracking back you just want him to “get it” and just show that little bit more intensity as in the PL very few can get away without it.

Oh I agree, back in this thread I've probably been one of his biggest critics for his lack of off the ball work. I just think a League Cup game when we're 2-0 up not in any trouble it wouldn't have done any harm to give him the full game, I think hooking him just knocks his confidence again and when we've invested so much money in him we should be doing more to develop him than just giving him the odd minutes here and there. Probably for another thread but its another issue having a manager with one year left on his deal who's not known for developing young players and prefers hard working players who've been round the block a bit.

I still think about the report that we asked him to try centre forward last season.

I watch the way he shifts the ball quickly in limited space to create shooting opportunities and wonder if there’s something there. The turn the other night was brilliant and he hit a great shot with his weak foot too to force that near post save. He seems comfortable hitting it with either foot.

Maybe he’d be a bit more energized off the ball if his defensive responsibilities were in front of him setting the press rather than having to leg it back to support the full back constantly.

I don’t know. There’s something here. I hope he gets a chance under someone else because I agree that he’s not busy enough for Moyes and that Moyes has already made up his mind. It’s not a good developmental strategy to throw a player in sporadically and yank them / banish them if they don’t immediately perform.
