Long time in football that. Things should all be set up and at a pace for us to have a successful window to compete next season.
That’s what the CEO said so I look forward to seeing what the squad is like at the end of the window.
Was good to hear the ownership are putting pressure on people at the club to do better.

Re: David Moyes
I think unless you can get away with the Chelsea style accounting cartwheels, the days of swift changes under new ownership seem very limited with the PL spending rules. Maybe if you can get massively outlandish sponsorship deals compared to your position like Wrexham perhaps bigger strides are still possible.TheRam wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2026 2:46 pm Only took over 19 months ago?

Otherwise, your trying to create a structure that builds long term (likely a bit slow) success.
That's not to excuse any and all issues at the club or things we've done, or not addressed. It does seem fair to acknowledge that the landscape has changed though and boxed off even more in favour of those already brining in massive outside revenue streams.

Re: David Moyes
On a bit of a tangent was listening to something about how NBA owners are supposedly skirting around salary caps/spending rules to advance their teams by handing players sponsorship deals instead (that allegedly they may not even have to do anything for, or allegedly they have the players create podcasts for which supposedly ads/sponsors can be bought with outlandish fees as a way to funnel money their way).
Feels like this as with most things these tricks to circumvent the rules reach other sports, so down the line I wonder if we'll start seeing podcasts or such from active players more often.

Re: David Moyes
I think everyone would feel a lot better if the axis of inaction Moyes/Kinnear/Committee had signed a right back by now.
It is a joke quite frankly, season starts this weekend.

We got our new CEO 5 months after that.
Our Technical Director and Scouting and Recruitment Director were appointed another 3& 1/2 months after that.
So we're down to less than 12 months ago now and we've barely got the leadership group in the building...

Re: David Moyes
Not that I really disagree with you in that it is a big job to sort out but how long would a CEO and management team in a large business get to sort things out, staffing and location wise Everton is not that big compared to say a Supermarket chain or John Lewis or something.Cods wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2026 3:22 pm Yes they signed the papers 19 months ago.

Would they get that long before people started asking questions?
Re: David Moyes
Depends what state the company was in before it was taken over and the new people were put in place. A well run club/business chain being taken over is far easier to sort out than the mess TFG inherited.Lazarou II wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2026 3:27 pm Not that I really disagree with you in that it is a big job to sort out but how long would a CEO and management team in a large business get to sort things out, staffing and location wise Everton is not that big compared to say a Supermarket chain or John Lewis or something.

12 months is plenty of time. We’ve only just hired a set piece coach. That shouldn’t take 12 months.Cods wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2026 3:22 pm Yes they signed the papers 19 months ago.

All these arguments were valid last season.
Not for this upcoming season though. It shouldn’t be about stability now, it should be about competing properly and getting into Europe.

If the long and winding rb waiting process lands us Alistair Johnson it will be a proper lead balloon

I honestly don't know.Lazarou II wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2026 3:27 pm Not that I really disagree with you in that it is a big job to sort out but how long would a CEO and management team in a large business get to sort things out, staffing and location wise Everton is not that big compared to say a Supermarket chain or John Lewis or something.

I'd imagine football being quite a niche business might take longer than perhaps a more cookie-cutter Supermarket type even of larger size.
There'd be a lot more complexity than retail for a start. Retail would be benchmarked and there'd be hundreds of cases - whereas football takeovers...I mean TFG have Roma to look toward for comparison if they need, and... (similarities to other sporting takeovers) and the people they now employ at Everton.
If the top level recruitment takes 8 months, things from there would accelerate in one sense as you get people in the building and let some go, but then complexity also grows. New finance systems(?) revenue streams, marketing teams, information gathering, new sporting data systems integration...a lot of it is bespoke. Who knows what little surprises get discovered along the way.
How much change do they roll out from the start. Oh and that big stadium we've just built - keep that full of people when we're playing and when we're not.
How do we define the steps between what constitutes 'stopping the bleeding' -> 'stabilisation' -> 'growth', in a non financial sense. Bit of a fluffy concept.
Supermarkets have somewhat rational customer bases - price or product quality changes significantly (maybe a bit of irrational brand loyalty) and they walk. Football not so much.
