I guess the timing is that they got signal from Iraola that he will accept the position if offered and then Slot was finished. They have probably never been interested in Alonso.

We either take the risk of the next Ireola who may well crash and burn, or we stick with Moyes despite his limitations.

As much as we'd love to attract someone like Ireola we aren't realistically going to be in the running.

As we have been fighting relegation and been average at best for many years now - its only evertonians that regard our club as a big one. So - you are right. You have to gamble and choose a progressive manager or stick with Moyes and his total lack of belief in Nil Satis Nisi Optimum.

If we are to gamble we need to look to Brighton, Bournemouth and Brentford too and change the scouting system, sports department and make a new strategy for sports. If we do that change we also need to change from buying players like Michael Keane and Tarkowski to Hujisens and Senesi and from Dwight McNeil to Rayan.

I cant imagine Everton ever doing that. Convinced Everton gonna stay with Moyes and probably extend the contract as well.

Iraola is a risk for Liverpool btw, if he goes there. Far from a guarantee.

A lot of their fans wanted a more guaranteed winner like Enrique, and think/thought that an Iraola type appointment was a big step up. We've seen similar level managers like Potter and Thomas Frank not be able to make the step up to a bigger club and meet the demands there.

You can draw 6 games out of 7 in the league at Bournemouth, as they did in February and March this year. And it's not a big deal. You've got 11,000 home fans watching you every other week, and not much of a wider fanbase beyond that. You can't do that at Liverpool.

It’s a huge risk for them, it’s a huge step up for him.

Very rarely does a manager succeed at a club like Liverpool without experience of managing or being a part of a huge club before.

I totally understand where you're coming from, it does seem completely futile.

Even if we did strike lucky and make all the right appointments, had a fantastic strategy, and everything went to plan, the best we could hope for is top 6, maybe top 5 at a push if others messed up.

It's a stupid system that regardless of what you do you'll never be able to break through to any sort of meaningful progress, and the chances of getting all your ducks perfectly in a row are really low anyway.

Pretty depressing really, but also I can't be arsed to be down and prefer the completely unrealistic positive outlook of trying to believe something good will happen eventually

He's had a very poor last 12 months. Probably be a good deal all round if they part company.

May even be replaced by Senesi now, on a free, who looked decent at Bournemouth. Which may well even itself out.
