VAR and is there a way to fix it?
Re: VAR and is there a way to fix it?
Slapped the ball out of play and they get the goal kick. Terrible calls all over the place just in the one incident.
Re: VAR and is there a way to fix it?
Thing is.
We can make a fuss about it
But what exactly do we gain from it?
Fuck all. Corrupt bastards.

In Italy, there are accusations that you can indeed fix VAR, just not 'fixed' in the way we'd all hoped.

After another unbelievable cock up at Brentford for a west ham penalty, i wish Webb would suspend himself and take the rest of the shower with himCods wrote: ↑Tue Apr 28, 2026 7:28 pm referee chief suspends himself over allegations

Was very enlightening on one of those mic'ed up ref videos where the ref actually says to the VAR team what he's going to say to 'sell' a particular call (which wasn't controversial at all) to the crowd.
Why should that even be a consideration in their mind. A referee's job is not to be diplomats and manage fan and player expectation, it is to uphold and administer the rules.

11 Vs 0 is some stat!
I find it hard to believe the officials have been so perfect with our decisions and essentially 1/3 of games elsewhere they've got something wrong.

Re: VAR and is there a way to fix it?
I think it just underlines what nonsense the whole "things even out in the end narrative" has always been around officiating. They really don't, there are those clubs who kindly I'd say definitely get the benefit of the doubt be it with traditional refereeing or via VAR. 11 v 0 seems pretty statistically unlikely if things were actually treated with an even application of the laws.
I had hoped in the beginning of the VAR rollout that just maybe VAR would've cut down on the more egregious bias but at times it's even more baffling as they still make the same choices even when presented with literal video evidence to the contrary. They just now just seem to come to the same conclusion and bend over backwards to form a narrative that somehow supports it.

It would've been more useful if they'd actually done the super obvious thing on the day. Also, expect we'll get another in a couple of weeks for the Silva on Rohl one...so look forward to that.
