Formations to suit the players we have

Post by sam of the south »

Been thinking that our weakest position is rb in a back 4, so going to 352 with wing-backs would allow us more flexibility, we could retain in form Mykolenko as a lcb, and we could get another forward into the mix

Pickford
Tarkowski Branthwaite Mykolenko
Harrison Garner Doucouré Onana McNeil
DCL Danjuma

Looks like a wild experiment. I’d be scared to try that tbh.

Dyche seems to field a strong line up in the cups, might be worth an experiment. Or if we get to a position of guaranteed safety in the PL

If that formation, I would be more inclined another CB rather than Mykolenko, Godfrey...? Maybe not!

And probably Gana, centre midfield, leaving Doucoure to partner DCL; DCL & Beto might compliment each other: one polished and silky smooth, the other raw and rough around the edges!

Unsure about Danjuma

But a revitalised Dele could be a class operator in the middle

Yeah, just speculating.

It would be unreal to get a 70% back to peak form Dele, wouldn’t it

The formation we are using is effective as is. Dyche just needs to rotate his options more.

Can any winger that isn't McNeil or Harrison do what he wants them to do though? Same for Doucs' position.

No but he could use them knowing he'll lose some things and gain others

I think he would lose more than he would gain, though(?) Heavily reliant on that first XI formation...

January may change that - Godfrey leaving? Dobbin out on loan? Two decent signings in?

It’s the same formation really. My point is that this is very much like him trying to force the players into a formation they can’t play. Switching to this would completely undo all the things Dyche has achieved since that fantasist Lampard finally got the sack and he’s not going to do it anyway. Back four forever. We’re probably more equipped to play wing backs now we have Young but the squad still doesn’t have anything near the skills mix to play a back 5 successfully. Tark is too slow to play in a 3 and Myko, while he’s had some great performances, is still too poor in the air and positionally to play LCB at this level. Godfrey and Keane are just rubbish

feels like the formation currently works but Villa in the cup was impressive, was that a 3-5-2-1?

Ideally, Patterson goes to the championship on loan when Coleman is back and we get two wingers who can do what McNeil and Harrison can, get up and down all game.

It’s not the same as 343, which left us dominated in the centre of the pitch.

We switched to the 352 v Villa and looked good, so he’s played it before.

Plus, it’s not like our current 4411 has us dominating the ball, or ever really feeling in control of matches, so I thought I’d just start a formations thread to shoot the breeze.
