David Moyes
Re: David Moyes
We know how next season will go, we know who will be starting games, we know we won't win at the big clubs grounds, we know all this so unsure what the point is really
The point is we don’t know how next season will go, we don’t know who we will buy, we don’t know who we will sell, we have no idea what our strongest 11 will be.

But their managers strive.AjaxAndy wrote: ↑Sun Jun 21, 2026 9:43 am Tbh I think this is why things don't bother me as much as others. I accepted there wasn't much point a long time ago.
Even the best run clubs outside the sky 6 bumble around between 5th and 13th.
Everyone holds Brighton up as an example of how to run a club but they've finished roughly where we were the previous 2 seasons, and although they made Europe this season there was a long stretch where they couldn't buy a win, much like us only theirs was in the middle of the season not the end.
Even Newcastle who managed to break in to the champions league spots couldn't handle the extra games, dropped out of Europe altogether the following seasons, their best players left or are leaving, and they get gazumped at every turn when they try and buy a player who would help them push back for top 5.
It's all completely pointless.
I'm not stupid, I know we will never win the league, I know we aren't going to get to the champs league final etc
But I know we can win the domestic cup, I know we can win the lower European cups.
But we will never do that with Moyes in charge of he is saying all this shite like usual.
I think it's more deluded to think it's fine and that next season may be better!!
Tbh I think the derby completely broke me.
I'm usually one to think the following week, ahhhh were going to win this, and I'm looking forward to getting back there etc
But since that day, the emotions of the coach welcome, the full day of high spirits, to play that way and lose like that....
Something snapped.
Just give me a younger manager, ambitious, tactically aware, brave. Give me something to cheer and to feel hopeful for.
Re: David Moyes
Yeah I didn't think we'd win the derby so probably why what followed frustrated me without completing destroying me.Audrey Horne wrote: ↑Sun Jun 21, 2026 10:08 am But their managers strive.

There are more progressive managers, and yes we all want to win something, which seems unlikely under Moyes. The fact is though he'll be here next season so it's a futile persuit being annoyed by it or what he says.
It is what it is, got to find a way to still enjoy it or what's the point? Take the highs, take the lows, both with equal levels of positivity and negativity.
Re: David Moyes
Moyes has won one of the competitions we aspire to like.
Not particularly defending him as I’m at the point where I don’t care if he stays or goes. Everton being Everton it’ll probably go catastrophically wrong either way as did the young ambitious managers we’ve tried before.
I’m still trying to remain a little optimistic, the new owners / structure is relatively new… It’s not been great so far and they’ve got to get it right this summer before the newness and hope starts to wear off

Re: David Moyes
Competing for the league title, failing that winning silverware.
The mid 80's mindset and mentality when we competed for everything. We wwre actually winners.
Standards bar one season since have been well on the floor..
With that taken into consideration, understandable peoples mindsets are engrained in mediocrity.
Re: David Moyes
I think the club just having any sort of standard rather than 'that will do' would do my mental health the world of good.
Re: David Moyes
No, people are commenting that whatever we do in the transfer window, nothing about the manager will change.
In fact giving a manager with 12 months left on his contract an integral say in recruitment is just repeating the same mistakes we have been guilty of the past decade or so. Which got us in the financial mess we are finally coming out of.
Re: David Moyes
Absolutely what we should be hoping for but the goalposts have moved somewhat since then.Indiantoffee75 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 21, 2026 10:52 am Competing for the league title, failing that winning silverware.

Also, in the 80’s I remember about 11000 at Goodison in the League cup vs Coventry, fans wanted Kendall out. Losing 1-0 but came back to win 2-1. I think that was more of a turning point than the Oxford game.

Re: David Moyes
I dont even think its that. Its more than punching our weight. Buying well, having a team with all parts that is more than a sum of them parts. Then benefitting from the financial advantage we have over most and trying to reel in 1 or 2 of the top teams when they fall off.Indiantoffee75 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 21, 2026 10:52 am Competing for the league title, failing that winning silverware.

The problem isnt we arent competing for titles or winning cups. The problem is we dont do anything well. We arent good at transfers, we arent good at developing youth, we arent entertaining. I want us to get to the stage where the higher ups dont have to talk us down to protect their jobs because of their own shite decisions
I dont want us to be the only club who cant field a right back all season or who collapses in blind panic when 2 nil becomes 2 1.

As a club in that large second tier, your fortunes should ebb and flow between European competition with a good managerial appointment and good recruitment to avoiding relegation for the inverse reasons, with a large chunk spent inbetween. A decent cup run or a trophy should by the law of averages be in there too.
We seem to have been stuck in the lower part of that for too long and there's no reason we, or the majority of the league for that matter, shouldn't expect to be on some form of European travels every few years from now on. Especially with the expanded European qualification places.
I don't want to hear any manager of ours telling us we shouldn't feel some disappointment for not getting that this season and that it is amazing we are even thinking about it.

Re: David Moyes
Makes me laugh reading all this, this thread goes up and down more than Father Christmas does chimneys.
Right now it’s all negative and that’s mainly down to the last six weeks of the season, if that had happened the previous six weeks and we ended in good form, there’d be calls to give him a new contract.
Two years ago we were saying we’d love a season of mid table mediocrity, we got it, but because we had a sniff of Europe, even champions league going in to the derby, it spoiled us. We’ve played great in some games, woeful in others and ok in the main. We’ve had some shocking decisions go against us and bad luck towards the end of games.
The plan was a steady pair of hands whilst the new regime got to grips with a new board, new ground and a forever changing psr or whatever landscape.
It’s understandable that we fear the worst as we’ve been a shambles of a club ever since Carter left, but let’s give the Friedkins a chance,I’m pretty sure they’ll have a better idea than Johnson, Kenwright and Moshiri did. Rome (or Roma) wasn’t built in a day.

Re: David Moyes
It depends on what you class as ok, but from my perspective the entire season was a bore, the results just masked some of it. We played poor, anti football for most of the season, Moyes approach eventually caught up with us and next season will be a continuation of that dour approach - that's a fact as that's the managers preference.Bluebridge wrote: ↑Sun Jun 21, 2026 11:45 am Makes me laugh reading all this, this thread goes up and down more than Father Christmas does chimneys.

He never should've been invited back. We had a choice when we sacked Dyche, move forward, or move backwards, we choose the latter. I'm more annoyed with TFG than Moyes as this is the choice they took, and they aren't reading the room now by persisting with him - but then again, how would they if they're never in the room....
Re: David Moyes
No reason we can't get in to that European places bracket every few seasons moving forward, but we will always suffer when we do because we can't buy the players and depth we'd need. Even achieving Europe would mean having crap seasons alongside it and everyone would be calling for whichever manager's head we had at that moment.Bumble wrote: ↑Sun Jun 21, 2026 11:33 am It isn't pointless at all.

For me that's not success, it's just being better than we've been. To make it not pointless we'd have to find sustained European qualifications, go deep in competitions and still finish high in the league... There's about 5 teams can do that and the rest have almost no hope.
I just want improvements year on year, not just bouncing between 7th and 14th, but I honestly don't see that happening unless they scrap the financial fair play or the sky 6 bugger off to a super league.
