Leighton Baines is urging Evertonians to give what they can to help fund the Rhys Jones Community Centre.
The centre is being built in memory of the young Evertonian after he was tragically killed in August 2007. However, the £1.5million development is still some way off its target and Baines joined a number of sporting legends at Sport Cafe England to help promote the scheme.
"I am sure the majority of people around Liverpool will help out and get involved in this charity," Baines told evertonTV.
"We hope we can raise the profile by doing events like this in May because we all want to get the community centre built. We need to raise the remaining funds so we can give children a place to go and stop similar tragedies happening.
"The whole city pulled together after Rhys' death. Now is our chance to try and bring something positive out of what was a really, really tragic situation.
"As a parent you can't imagine anything happening to your children. Many of the team attended the funeral and it was emotional for us so I can't begin to think what Rhys' parents were going through.
"Now is our chance to try and see some good out of what happened," said Baines. "It will be a fitting tribute to get the community centre finished.
"We all want to get kids off the streets and give them a place to go. If we can do that we hope to stop tragedies like this happening again."

Landon Donovan may be back in Southern California and gearing up for the start of the MLS season with LA Galaxy but Everton are still on the American forward's mind.
Speaking in a press conference today, Landon admitted the only team in England he'd consider signing for would be Everton.
"If I ever went back to England I would only want to play for Everton," he said.
"Playing at Goodison Park is really special. As much talk there is about getting a new stadium, there's something about a historic place. People have gone there for years. I'm just a player there for 10 weeks; this is their life."
