NSNO's poll, how do you think Everton will do against the Baggies?

Corriere dello Sport is reporting that Juventus midfielder, and flop, Tiago, has rejected a move to Everton, citing a move to Spain as his preferred choice.

Tiago failed to impress in his last spell in England, and it is reported that he is unwilling to try again in the Premier League despite Juventus being keen to get rid of him.

The Liverpool Echo is reporting that talks to bring Alan Smith to Goodison Park are still ongoing.

Talks were believed to have broken down after Kevin Keegan asserted that the player was not leaving, but the Echo claims that along with discussions with Stephane M'Bia and Joao Moutinho, the Blues are still in with a chance of bringing Smith to the club.

Article A few of the recent arguments online have got me thinking about the fine line between love and hate. Not the love-hate discussions over Kenwright, the Kirkby move or even a certain player; more the very fine line between LOVEing Everton FC and HATEing Liverpool FC. Of course its possible to do both together, but the steps some poeple seem to take makes me realise just why some of our fans are branded as bitter blues.

First and foremost I am an Everton supporter and any sense of dislike I have towards Liverpool and their supporters is due to local rivalry. Not because they have had more recent success than us, not because of who their manager is and certainly not because of the terrible tragedy in Belgium over twenty years ago. Lets face it; the rivalry the two clubs share is excellent for the fans and people of the city of Liverpool, it leads to exciting matches, a great atmosphere and two dates every one of us look for as soon as the fixture list is announced.

At the games however people (from both sets of fans) seem to be more content with shouting insults across the pitch than cheering for their own team. Put yourself in the shoes of one of our payers, lets take Yakubu for example. Your stood on the hallowed Goodison turf in your first Merseyside derby, what is more likely to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up and spur you on to scoring: 40,000 Evertonian's on their feet singing a chorus of “Feed the yak,” or patches of supporters throughout the ground chanting about unfortunate deaths from twenty years ago, and petty songs questioning the paternity of the opposing captains children? I'd be more than willing to bet it's the former, all the latter has ever done is stir Steven Gerrard into putting in undoubtedly great performances against us year in and year out. I've even heard these song when we play teams other than Liverpool, which is not only a waste of breath but down right laughable. If you're witty enough to make up songs about football players, use it to create new songs for Everton players i'm sure they'd appreciate it more.

I am by no means having a go at the majority of our fans, ever since my first trip to Goodison I have known that they are among the best in the country, and the friendly banter associated between the two teams is excellent for the game. I do however think some people blur this line between being Everton fans, and Liverpool haters, so much so its cringe worthy at times. If you pay your hard earned money to go and watch the games live, you have every right to shout whatever you like (within reason of course) but I for one would suggest you use that voice to first and foremost support the club you love and keep songs about liverpool and their players well alone.

Nice article.

To be honest. Call me an old hippy if you like but I think hate songs are the biggest waste of breath possible. The only people who really seem to be into them are trakkie wearing scallies in the GwSt and the old skool hooligans.

Its not as though are hate songa are tribalistic like in scotland. They are just pure nonsense.

I think that songs with positive vibes are more beneficial to the team.

I take your point and think it's a good article.

Somebody else may point out that these 'scallies' pay their money as well, so should be able to sing what they want. Im not really bothered either way

I think their is room for love and hate in football - its what makes it so competitive, the 'hate' of other teams makes you like your own even more doesn't it?

I totally agree with this article. We don't do ourselves one bit of good by hating anyone and most of all the reds. All we do then is give them a focus to do even better against us. I think we should be channelling our energies into supporting our own players.
Mind you, I've at times ranted at the luck that other lot seem to have in buckets.
The more we direct our energies to our side the less we give creedence to any other side.
So, think about it, all hatred seems to do is to come back and bite you the bum.
