NSNO's poll, how do you think Everton will do against the Baggies?

Corriere dello Sport is reporting that Juventus midfielder, and flop, Tiago, has rejected a move to Everton, citing a move to Spain as his preferred choice.

Tiago failed to impress in his last spell in England, and it is reported that he is unwilling to try again in the Premier League despite Juventus being keen to get rid of him.

The Liverpool Echo is reporting that talks to bring Alan Smith to Goodison Park are still ongoing.

Talks were believed to have broken down after Kevin Keegan asserted that the player was not leaving, but the Echo claims that along with discussions with Stephane M'Bia and Joao Moutinho, the Blues are still in with a chance of bringing Smith to the club.

Article So Andrei Arshavin is heading for Barcelona it seems, in a deal worth 25million Euro’s or £22million.

I suppose this was inevitable really given his sensational displays during the Euro’s. Good for him, a world class talent like that deserves to be playing for a world class football team.

Yet had our board not been so derelict in their duties back in January, we could well have seen this lad playing at Goodison during the second part of last season, after all did the player himself not indicate that he liked the club and the atmosphere of playing at our beloved stadium?

We sold McFadden back in January, the proceeds of that sale could and should, in my opinion, have been used to splash out on a player who could well have been the spark we needed to achieve Champions League qualification.

But oh no Mr Kenwright and co once again failed to provide the necessary funds to David Moyes and now we have missed the boat, there is the argument I suppose that had we signed him it would have only been short lived, and he would have surely been sold - at a massive profit - once the Euro’s were over.

It's just so disappointing that the people who run this club seem more intent on moving us to a poxy new stadium, therefore restricting our transfer capabilities, rather than doing the right thing and supporting David Moyes with some decent funds for players who can help us break into the top four. As a result we are likely to lose the best manager this club has had in twenty something years, maybe not initially, maybe he'll do good by the fans and stay on for the final year of his present deal, but there is no way I can see him signing a new contract this summer.

Messrs Kenwright and Wyness you have a lot to answer for, this is simply not good enough.

fair points but as for kenwright out i disagree, true we may not have the funds other clubs do but if it wasnt for kenwright there would proably be no everton after peter johnsons handy work. the board gave the money for johnson, the yak, ect and moysey buys well im not panicking just yet, the new stadium where ever its built has to be done for the club to move forward and to be able to attract bigger name players.and if the board was to go whos going to invest in us with a stadium like we have at the momment and do we want to end up like the red s**t across te park

Rubbish, absolute rubbish. Andrei Arshavin is on £50k per week and lives in the beautiful city of St Petersburg playing his football in a great stadium. Zenit knew exactly how good he was and were in no rush to sell him. What mkes everyone think that he would have come to a club that is only challenging for the EUFA Cup, (a trophy he has already won), has a clapped out stadium located in run down Walton with little opportunity for challenging for top honours??
Everton need to sort out some of the basics (stadium) before they will ever attract players as good as Arshavin. Just because he played against us in January does not mean that we had a right to bring him to Goodison.

I agree with whichever poster said this was total rubbish. I wish people would get off the idea that he would have been a certainty to sign for us in January. I highly doubt we would have been able to afford him even then.

I find it hard to believe that an Evertonian would write this.

Maybe I shouldn't be though, as there are people with a low opinion of the board, of certain players, so it makes sense that someone would have such a hatred for the area and stadium Everton play in.

Si, I dont hate Walton or the stadium. However, I am frustrated at the death by a thousand cuts that the club is facing. Goodison was a state of the art stadium in the 1930's but longer meets the needs of the club. People must understand the way things look from outside, rather through our own blue tinted glasses. It will be more difficult to get World class players to come to a club with an almost derelict stadium in a clapped out part of the city.

You're right - it was state of the art, but you have to ask whose fault it is that it isn't any longer

You don't have to look far - there is one man at Everton who has been there since 1987 in the boardroom or "thereabouts" and who had the power to use the money we were making in the 80's to keep our stadium ahead of the game

He didn't

There are a lot of other people to blame, from John Moores' "yes men" who were too scared to make a decision on their own and Phillip "Get all English clubs banned from Europe Maggie, that'd be a boss idea" Carter right the way through Peter Johnson and his board to where we are now.

We have been run by a succession of idiots - and the last few, for twenty years at least, have all had one man next to them at one point or another. Step forward Mr Kenwright....

To be honest, I think that his sale to a big name club had been planned long before January. His profile looks as if it has been built up professionally with one target in mind: get the most money out of a talented but fairly unreliable player.

Although I agree with your points in general, I don't think buying Arshavin was a realistic option, not even back in January.

I disagree.. and agree with the poster. I think that it was the Uefa Cup that advertised this kid. He was just some russian player bofore then. If we splashed less than half as much as Barca are now id say we would have gotten him.

WHAT`S ALL THE PANIC FOR,I HAVEN`T SEEN MANY TOP CLUBS BUYING YET.WAIT TILL THE EUROS HAVE FINISHED THEN YOU WILL SEE THEM BIDDING EVEN OUR GREAT EVERTON.THE ONLY THING THAT I WORRY ABOUT IS LOSING OUR GREAT MANAGER,I WILL RELAX A BIT WHEN HE SIGNS A NEW CONTRACT.I ALSO REMEMBER BEING TOLD BY THE CLUB THAT THE NEW STADIUM WOULDN`T COST EVERTON ANY MONEY,BUT NOW IT DOESN`T LOOK LIKE THAT.

Im sure Moyes never expressed an interest in signing him or asked the board for money so what you have written was essentially fabricated in your paranoid head.

Don't believe the hype.

I also happen to live in Liverpool and have done all my life. Walton IS a run down and depressed area with all of the problems that brings. When trying to attract high quality players, it is one of the less attracive aspects of the club, along with the current state of the stadium.

MmmmBlue Toffee how can you be so sure of that tho? Did you not hear the way Moyes was touting him up before the UEFA final? He seemed pretty keen on the lad to me, and besides he wouldn't be so daft as to publically express an interest unless he could back it up with a realistic bid, that's not the way he operates. As for fabrication - it's just my opinion, I'm not saying i'm right just merely expressing a view, which is fair enough as far as i'm concerned.

Why did the board fail? maybe we enquired and were knocked back by Zenit or maybe the player himself didn't want to leave at that time? I think people got a bit carried away with Arshavin, as far as I'm aware he never gave an indication of a desire to move in January and only now has come out and said he wants to leave, the player was probably more than happy to stay and try and complete a league and UEFA Cup double with his club.

Dear Toffeeheaven.
What absolute bollox you talk. Please let the rest of us know just exactly where you got the information from that Blue Bill is derelict in his duties by not signing Arshavin in January. Do you know for a fact that he was available? Do you know for a fact that we had the funds to pay for him? Do you knowfor a fact that he wanted to come to us in the first place? My guess is that you cannot support any of your claims with hard facts!
As for the statement " a world class player should be playing for a world class team" I'm sorry but you are seriously deluded if you think we are world class. Finishing 5th in the premiership is not world class. Only reaching the last 16 of the UEFA cup is not world class. We are a very good premiership side who will do well to finish in the top 6 again next season. It may be hard for you to swallow that but until we get some seriopus investment, that's where we will remain. I love this club, I am against us moving to Kirby but I'm also a realist. We do very very well with what we have so lets stop kicking the crap out of the board and give them some time and space to get on with what they do best. After saying all that, I do wish Wyness would get the fuck out of Dodge and do us all a favour!!
COYB!

oh dear rudstone what a load of contradicting nonsense, like i've already said it was just my opinion, I was saying that I felt we should have gone after him and that I believed that the reason we didn't was down to the board being penny pinchers once again, no I can't back it up with facts, nor did I ever say that I could.

As for a world class team - I was clearly referring to BARCELONA NOT EVERTON, as proud as I am to be a blue i'm not so blinkered to believe that we are a world class team, and if you'd read the article properly you may have realised that.

Steve D.
Both clubs are in a stone's throw of each other. It doesn't seem to stop Liverpool from attracting the best players. Or are their jiggers better than ours? Great, or even good players won't normally go to clubs that don't offer them a realistic chance of competing for trophies (and actually winning something!) Then there's the money thats offered and the prestige of playing for a successful club.

It winds me up a treat when someone knocks Walton and uses the supposed state of the area as a reason for top players not being within our reach. If we were regularly winning tophies, then players would be falling over themselves to join us.

The stadium,I agree, is getting a bit antwacky now but it could be redeveloped. Then we would have a good stadium and if Moyes continues to get us into european football each season, the better players will come. Don't knock Walton as a reason for us not attracting the best. They're hardly going to go for a night on the tiles in the Royal Oak or takee their kids to McDonalds on walton Road (although they are both fine establishments!)

To have a top stadium doesn't mean we need to go to Kirkby, at least that's my belief.
